Before joining as the Co-Director in 2003, Dr.Le Bach Duong worked for twenty years as a senior researcher at the Institute for Southeast Asian Studies and the Institute of Sociology, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences. His major research areas include migration, urbanization, and development. He earned his PhD in sociology from the State University of New York at Binghamton, USA, in 1998.

Dr. Khuat Thu Hong is the founder and the Co-Director of the Institute for Social Development Studies (ISDS). She has a B.A in Psychology from the Moscow National University in 1984 and a PhD in Sociology from the Institute of Sociology, Ha Noi in 1997. Before establishing ISDS, Hong worked for the Institute of Sociology, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences and Humanities for 16 years and for UNDP as the gender specialist from 2000-2001.  Hong’s major fields of studies include gender, sexuality, reproductive and sexual health and HIV/AIDS. Hong is the member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in two consecutive terms 2004-2009 and 2009-2014 and also member of the Central Council of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations term 2005-2010.

Name:  Nguyen Thi Van Anh, MA

Nguyen Thi Van Anh is the head of the Social Development Studies, ISDS. She was graduated with a BA  in Social Psychology from the National University of Roxtov on Don, the former Soviet Union in 1986, then a MA in Demography from the National Center for Development Studies, the Australian National University, Australia in 1992. Her work is constantly focused on Gender, sexuality, sexual and reproductive health, stigma and discrimination related with HIV/AIDS, and child studies.

Name: Tran Giang Linh, MA

Tran Giang Linh graduated with a BA in Sociology from National University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi, Vietnam and soon after that she won a Four-year fellowship for Ph.D. programme from the same school (2005-2009). She finished her Master degree in Sociology, University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada, in 2008. Currently, she works as a senior researcher in the Social Development Studies Department, ISDS. Her major research interests lie in different issues of migration in the context of globalization, including labour migration from Vietnam to Asian countries, the impacts of women’s international migration through marriage on sending households and communities in South East Asia and social protection for rural-urban migrants.

Name:  Bui Thu Huong, MSc

Bui Thu Huong has two BA degrees, one in Foreign Languages, from the College of Foreign Languages, National University Hanoi Master of Science, and one in Sociology from the Department of Sociology, College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi. She finished her master degree in Sociology from the Department of Criminology and Sociological Studies (CASS), the University of Hull, United Kingdom, in 2006. Besides her activities with ISDS, she holds a post as a lecturer and researcher at the Department of Sociology, Academy of Journalism and Communication, Hanoi. Her research interests focus on issues of gender and sexuality, with a particular interest on sexual communication in contemporary Vietnam, along with harm reduction for IDUs. Currently, she is engaged in a major national study on Sexuality and Sexual Health, focusing her efforts on aging and sexuality within this study.

Thanh Long graduated with a BA in Business Administration from the Commerce University of Vietnam and a master degree in Sociology from the Universiteit van Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Currently, he works as a researcher for the Department of Social Development Studies, ISDS. His experiences and research interests are focused on the issues of male sex work and migration, contemporary media and the learning of sexuality and sexual health for young people, and the changing in notions of sexual attractiveness in contemporary Vietnam.

Name: Pham Duc Cuong

Pham Duc Cuong graduated with BA in Economics from the Vietnam University of Transport and Communication before joining ISDS and worked as a moderator for JVnet – the first and biggest list serve on STI/HIV/AIDS in Vietnam.  He is also the first Coordinator Vietnam Civil Society Partnership Platform on HIV/AIDS (VCSPA). Currently, he takes the leading position for the Data Management Unit of ISDS. His experiences and research focus range from child studies, stigma and discrimination, HIV/AIDS, to Sexuality, sexual and reproductive health.

Name:  Vu Thi Thanh Nhan

Thanh Nhan graduated with a BA in Sociology, Department of Sociology, Hanoi National University for Social Sciences and Humanities in 1996. Currently, she attends the master program on social work at the Social Sciences and humanities in collaboration with UNICEF. Before joining ISDS in 2002, she spent years lecturing Sociology at the University of Industrial Arts and Water Resources University. Currently, she leads the activities of the Resource Center for Gender, Sexuality and Reproductive Health, based at ISDS. Her achievements are best known for the success in working with different vulnerable population such as PLWHA, IDUs, SWs, MSM and street children. Her research focuses on the themes of gender, sexuality, and sexual health.

Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao has a BA and a MA in Information Technology from the National Hanoi University. Currently, she works as the main data specialist for the Data Management Unit of ISDS. Her research interests focus on different issues of migration, stigma and discrimination toward people with disabilities, gender and sexuality.
