In every society, housework plays an important role in both individual and community’s life. However, up to now housework has been devalued socially and politically. It has never been considered as a ‘real’ job.

The main objective of this project is to provide sound evidence relating to women’s contribution through their housework, monetary value of this kind of labor and its contribution to the wider national economy. The project’s goal is to advocate for this topic to be integrated in the national policies.

Various methods were adopted to collect information for the study, including a thorough desk review and field research. For field research, both qualitative and quantitative approaches were applied.

Field data was collected in two localities in Ha Tay which were Nguyen Trai ward, Ha Dong and Dai Dong commune, Thach That over a one-week period starting in late October 2007.
