On 6th and 7th January 2010, ISDS in collaboration with CIHP has successfully organized a two days workshop on counseling on relationship and sexuality in Hanoi, with the special instruction of Dr. Marty Klein from the United States of America.
Being one of the most well-known sex therapist in the United States of America, Dr. Klein has spent his 29-year career as a Marriage Counselor, Psychotherapist, and Sex Therapist helping people understand and accept themselves and their sexuality. He has continually called attention to the social and political conditions that keep so many of us feeling guilty, confused, scared, and hopeless about our sexual feelings, experiences, and relationships.
In this workshop, Dr.Klein helped the participants to review the basic principals of sex and relationship counseling, the ethical issues, and the special techniques in this particular arena of counseling. Together with the experiences shared by the Vietnamese counselors, Dr.Klein used the examples from his own counseling work in the United States to help participants with concrete understanding on how to apply certain skills and techniques in certain situations. The workshop ended with numerous promising ideas for a better sex and relationship counseling service in Vietnam raised.
