Civil Society Perspectives on HIV/AIDS Policy in Vietnam

Image not availableIn November 2007, the Institute for Social Development Studies has published the book : “Civil Society Perspectives on HIV/AIDS Policy in Vietnam” of the author Khuat Thi Hai Oanh. This is one of the first literature of an independent assessment on HIV/AIDS programs that carried out by a civil society organization. (Doctor Khuat Thi Hai Oanh is also one of the first authors for the Assessment Report on the National Program of HIV/AIDS Prevention in Vietnam, period of January 1996 to June 2001. This is the first independent assessment report on HIV/AIDS in Vietnam).
This book includes perspectives of civil society on the HIV/AIDS policies in Vietnam. “Civil Society Perspectives on HIV/AIDS Policy in Vietnam ” shows a strong respond to the UNGASS commitments and other HIV/AIDS policies that call for the involvements of the social organizations in HIV/AIDS prevention activities. The book reflects and gives an objective perspective on many critical issues of the national program of HIV/AIDS prevention. With the aim to limit the prevalence of HIV/AIDS epidemic, “Civil Society Perspectives on HIV/AIDS Policy in Vietnam ” recommends two immediate actions:

  • Increase the effort to stop the spreading of HIV by taking the interventions that proved to be effective, such as the universal harm-reduction intervention for the Injecting Drug Users, Sex Workers; Sex Education and Promoting condom use for young people.
  • Ensure the fully participation of civil society, including PLWHA and other marginal groups participate in developing, implementing, and assessing the policies and programs, also fighting against stigma and discrimination toward PLWHA and people affected by HIV/AIDS
The book has 70 pages and is now available in the library of the Institute for Social Development Studies.
